Learning in French nursery schools is structured around the following 5 areas:

1. Getting to grips with language and discovering the written word (vocabulary, speaking, acquiring the alphabetic principle and the gestures of writing, etc.);
2. Becoming a pupil (learning to like school, being part of a group organised by rules, building autonomy and personality, etc.);
3. Acting and expressing oneself with one’s body (physical activities, artistic expression, dance, drama);
4. Discovering the world (spatial and temporal references, logical thinking and reasoning, observing and asking questions, learning to adopt a point of view other than one’s own, etc.);
5. Perceiving, feeling, imagining, creating (awareness of the arts, drawing, plastic compositions, playing musical instruments, singing, etc.).
